This coming Sunday Chris and I are meeting with the catholic priest who MIGHT preside over our wedding. I suppose this is the preliminary interview where all the uncomfortable questions are asked…or at least some of them. Do any of you have any insight as to what questions he might ask Chris and I?
Hey! I love reading your blog...I just wanted to let you know we met with our priest a couple months ago and had to take the FOCUS (compatibility-type test). It just listed statements to which you each has to answer answer Strongly Agree, Agree, Neutral, Disagree, Strongly Disagree. It covered basically everything...finances and who will be in charge of that, children and how they will be raised, faith type questions and then some weird random ones as well. I have to say I was a little shocked when I read the statements like "I feel comfortable being naked in front of my significant other" and "I see our sexual relationship as a reflection of God's love for us". Sorry for being so forward, but I just wanted to let you know to be prepared for anything!! Good luck :)
ReplyDeleteOh, and I love your ideas! Your wedding will be beautiful!
When we met with our pastor (we aren't catholic) she just wanted to get to know us--we talked about how we met, how long we dated, what we did for a living, etc.
ReplyDeleteThen we took a premarital class with 25 other couples--and there is where we took the FOCUS test like Lauren (above) mentioned.
It was pretty informative and it wasn't too big of a deal for us. Good luck at yours!
I just talked to someone who had to answer a 250 question TEST in order to get married. If their score didn't measure up, they had to go to counseling. Talk with Christopher about anything you think they might ask, but even about stuff like, "You think your partner drinks too much," and RANDOM stuff like that, because they'll ask it. GOOD LUCK!!
