I love my plum shoes more than any other bridal white shoes I found during the process of planning our wedding. They added a splash of color and an adorable detail, in my opinion. But there is a little piece of me that is secretly hoping that I don't look back on the picture above in 40 years and think to myself, "why in the world did I wear colored shoes on my wedding day!?". And then there is the dreaded point in time that I might have to tell my daughter "oh, but that was the trend/style back when we got married. everyone was wearing colored shoes!" after she flips through our wedding photos giggling about what in the world I did/wore on our wedding day.
And so, to go along with yesterdays wonderful post, let's partake in a little poll {located at the top right of the blog}. Have you/did you wear a colored shoe on your wedding day?
1. Love{d} the colored shoes. It's all about the details, baby.
2. Went with white.
2. Went with white.
3. Colored shoes weren't a trend when I tied the knot
If you would like, leave a little comment about your thoughts on this trend. Do you think it will stick around? Do you think it's overdone? Do people give you odd looks when you tell them that your wedding shoes were not/will not be white {i got those looks all the time}?!
I wore yellowish-green shoes (AND a tea length dress, so there was no hiding them).
ReplyDeleteI hope this trend sticks around. I personally don't think it is that weird. I know I won't look back at the fact that I wore green shoes as weird in the same way people look at the satin bridesmaid dresses with poofy sleeves from the 80s.
I wish it would have been a trend way back when (ok its been less than 4 years, but alot has changed). The cute, personalized details weren't really that big. Bright colors were unspeakable then. I love the trend of colored shoes and all of the bright personal colors for that matter!
ReplyDeleteI'm on the fence. I love the idea/trend, but I'm a matchy-matchy person, so we'll see!
ReplyDeleteI worried about that too, but now I don't think it's that big of a deal. I am so glad I wore my raspberry shoes!
ReplyDeleteBut I REALLY LOVE the green ones in your previous post! Not exactly the shoes you wear with a low-key budget ...it's a good thing I didn't find them in my color!
I haven't gotten married yet...
ReplyDelete(10/17/09)!!
but when I do I am hoping to wear bright green shoes! I love this new trend!
I just think it's a sign of fashion forward woman. I want to say it will stick around, but you really never know. And I wouldn't worry too much about telling your future daughter about colored shoes...imagine what woman in the 80's tell their daughters now! yikes! lol
ReplyDeleteI wore orange shoes and LOVED it and so did all my guests! I felt so sassy and fun! I definitely know that I will not look back at my pictures one day and regret it. I am a practical person and knew that I would never wear the white shoes again. The great part is I will definitely wear my shoes again :)
ReplyDeleteI find it totally strange that people think your shoes need to be the same color as your dress. Hasn't that been out of style for a long time? I'm wearing baby blue Hollywould heels at my wedding this June. When I was little I used to draw myself as a bride with blue shoes (no idea why) so I've decided to go with it...plus they will be my something blue. I get looks of death when I tell people, but to me that is a sign to go for it! PS: Your shoes are amazing!
ReplyDeleteI love it! I can't wait to wear my perfect navy blue heels on my wedding day! I HATE white shoes, I think they make my feet look ginormous. I know I'll wear my blue shoes all the time, and when else are you going to wear white ones?? They'd just collect dust.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the dated/trend thing, I don't think it's a big deal at all. Your shoes won't be in every photo from your day, they are a fun detail visible in only some. Can't say the same for that 80s headband/veil combo with puff sleeves...
I wore pink shoes...actually the pink shoes that you showed in your post below (the ones with the bow on the side). I am the only one out of all of my friends that indulged on this trend and I am so happy I did. I have some great shoe pictures:)
ReplyDeleteI'm a single gal so haven't gotten married yet... but when/if I do, I will FOR SURE wear colored shoes. Love that trend!! So if it's not in style, I will still do it because I would NEVER re-wear white/cream shoes! I would either wear pink since that's my fave color or I'd wear blue to fulfill the 'something blue'.
ReplyDeleteNot married yet. Don't know what colour palette I will be working with but I do know I will be wearing coloured shoes on my tootsies.
ReplyDeleteIn regards to the issue of "trends"... I wouldn't worry about what you and others will think when you look back at your wedding because it was what you wanted to do at the time and that's all that matters. As much as I love timeless style, there are some trends [such as coloured shoes] that I absolutely adore whether its a trend for a year or 10 years.
What brand are your shoes? They are beauties.
hey girl! how high were your heels? im having a hard time finding a pair of black satin..shoes that aren't too high! my feet kill!! Soon as i try on these shoes...im like no way! All the 2 inch heels are not nearly as cute as the 3-4'. I have a pair for my ceremony wedding dress..but trying to find a cute pair for my reception dress..the bcbg dress..
ReplyDeleteI'm doing blue - "it's all about the details, baby" ;-)
ReplyDeleteI hope the trends sticks around, and not just colored shoes, but showing your personality, despite (or perhaps in spite of) "tradition." Sorry - getting a lot of "tradition" thrown in my face during this process, without even knowing what it all means... I just want to be me at my wedding, blue suede shoes and all... lol!
I LOVE IT
ReplyDeleteand I hope it sticks around forever!
I love this idea. Such a fun way to incorporate color have a little fun.
ReplyDeletei'm looking for light pink in a d'Orsay style as we speak! i love love love the idea
ReplyDeleteFrom a photographer's point of view: love them! They're the perfect little splash of color that I can use to spice up an image when I want. They're also one of the only details that can be tucked away in between frames if the next image calls for it.
ReplyDeleteAnd Jessica, thanks for stopping by my blog. I really appreciate the kind words and I hope you'll check back in soon :)
I wore purple shoes!! And I love them..
ReplyDeleteMy sister is thinking about wearing colored shoes at her wedding and I love the idea. I hope in another 5 years it will still be "in" for when it comes my time to have my wedding. I like the traditional black and white weddings but it's the 21st century so we should spice it up!!!
ReplyDeleteI was just wondering where you found the plum shoes in the picture above, they are adorable!
I love the idea and this its such a great way to have a little sassy personality show through more than just the elegant beautiful part your dress hair etc portrays. I would be wearing colored shoes... but i'll be barefoot! =)
ReplyDeleteCan somebody tell me where I can find the Plum shoes (from this blog) they are a peep toe with a bow. If anybody knows or if you know of a website where you can buy dyeable shoes that would look like the ones i just describe give me a shout.

I just stumbled upon your blog as I googled "plum shoes" because I am searching for some myself for my wedding. I am torn between wearing them myself or buying them for the bridesmaids and staying traditional. I cannot seem to find WHERE you got these shoes or what kind they are. I have searched everywhere. If you could point me in some direction I would appreciate it. I love your blog! I just wish I had found it sooner!
ReplyDeletewe are getting married in new york, sept 2010, and i am treating myself to a lovely pair of aruna seth shoes that i first spotted in ivory, but have since seen them in red! our bridesmaids are in red and so is our colour theme, so im going for the trend and wearing red! and at least i know that i can wear the shoes after, what bride goes out in there wedding shoes? this is a perfect way of not wasting a great pair of shoes and wearing them again and again if i wish.
ReplyDeleteThis weekend I just finished attempting to break in my beautiful sapphire blue suede 4" heels for my wedding in 2 weeks. The style is very similar to the plum ones above and you can find them @ Macy's (Steve Madden). They also come in fuschia and black. For the gals that don't want to shock their traditional family too much, try wearing the white/cream colored shoes for your ceremony, and spice it up with the bright ones when it's paaarrty time!
ReplyDeleteDo you know the brand of these shoes or can you tell me where you got them?
ReplyDeleteI love those shoes! They're the perfect color for my wedding. Where did you find them?
ReplyDeleteCould you please tell me where you got your plum rouched shoes?! I absolutely love them and have not seen anything else like them! I am getting married November 5 and I am looking for purple shoes to wear for the wedding! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm undecided...I like the way they stand out, but on the other hand, I want my wedding apparel to portray purity so I'm leaning towards sticking with traditional white shoes when I do get married.
ReplyDeleteI love the colored shoes! Where did you find the plum ones?!?! Adorable.
ReplyDeletePlease, please...where can I find those plum shoes...they not only look great, they seem so comfy!!
ReplyDeleteWhen you look at couples that are getting married a lot of times they look prefect for each other.
ReplyDeletezane
Those shoes are so cute! I'm looking for some like them. Where did you get them?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
