Looking for...

Engaged 24 year old female, looking for pictures of a simple cake to send to her cake baker. Nothing too fancy, nothing with chocolate frosting, and nothing with adorning flowers. Just a simple oh-so-charming cake.

Below is a picture of one of my favorite cakes, via juliet nicole :

Only qualm: I don't know if I want to wrap my raspberry ribbon around the cake. I love the look of the black ribbon, but its not really in our color scheme. So, by Friday I have to send the baker a picture of a cake that I like. Help! Please comment and leave a link to a simple cake that you love. I need all the inspiration/ideas I can get!

My cake was quite simple. White cake with a small swiss dot pattern. There was a magenta fondant ribbon at the bottom of each layer, and we added gerbera daisies. Get rid of our topper + daisies, and you've got a pretty plain cake :: http://tinyurl.com/2eterg, http://tinyurl.com/5gwrwy, http://tinyurl.com/68sfvp

I love the idea of different size layers. Something like this, but without the flower...

This is a lovely, simple cake too.

We are doing something fairly plain. Still deciding between something similar to either of these... good luck.

Cake 1 - I think from the Knot

Cake 2 - I think also from the Knot

My cake was white with dots of icing (I wanted it to have the texture like a sea urchin, but with less dots). I made the mistake of asking our baker to include fuschia pink icing around the base of each layer. To a guy, this means 80s neon hot pink. It didn't look "that bad" - it was still a pretty cake, but I think simplest is best. You can add some flowers for a touch of color and you can also have a pretty linen on the cake table and that dresses it up a bit.

Love your blog by the way! :)

Links to relatively simple cakes that can be made more simple and altered just a bit for your style:

I posted a few simple cakes on my blog if you want ideas. I got many of them from Martha and the Knot.

Hey J-Fro! When I saw your post, I thought of this beautiful and simply cake I had seen on The Knot. I love the thin ribbon tied into a cute bow (and I think a plum colored ribbon would look really nice). And I, personally, love the gum-paste flowers on cake -usually I don't, but these are exquisite.

Glad to hear planning is going well for you. Less than two weeks! AHHH! So excited for you! ITB!

Jessica, my love,
I say go with one like the OC cake that you posted in July...it's oh so romantic but also simple! We're counting the days until the wedding! p.s. Did you get your "card box" problem solved? If not, call me!

I like it! My cake photo is just like that but with a ribbon on each tier.

What if you did gold ribbon (that was part of your color scheme, right?)?

Do you have a cake topper? That could easily be your only adornment.

Just found your blog via Prep-E girl.

I did the ribbon thing on one layer, and I am SO glad I did. My cake was ivory, and the pop of pink turned out gorgeous. We didn't use flowers or anything else like that.

Go big please, I think I may eat 4 or 5 pieces of that cake. I hope it's good.
